Mike Huckabee has gotten some buzz today for properly stating that President Obama was born in the U.S. His reasoning? Because the Clinton camp is so politically savvy with so many smart operatives that if *anyone* was going to sniff out anything about Obama’s birth, it would have been them! That cracked me up. Way to toe the line between sanity (I do think he knows there is nothing to this fairytale) and appealing to the embarrassingly large pool of nuts who buy into it. A somewhat viable GOP candidate for 2012 who a) stood up & defended Michelle Obama against Palin & Bachmann’s critique of her anti-obesity campaign (showing that he is capable of bucking conventional right wing talking points when the topic is something he firmly believes in) and b) creatively smacks down talk of Obama’s place of birth! Good for you Mike!
He followed up by saying that Obama grew up in Kenya. Sigh………..
Guess we’ll call his little delusion, the AFTER-birther movement.
Will there be ANY viable GOP candidate who will be able to completely refute (or, refudiate!) any nonsense about Obama’s legitimacy as an American citizen? It is already sad enough that many will have to say they don’t believe in evolution, now you have to show your birther or after-birther credentials too?
UPDATE – Ok, this seems more like Huckabee – he meant to say Indonesia. Still, there seems to be no end to the round of questions that the GOP field will have to face on this topic so now I wonder if he may have just hurt his chances – if he is even serious about running anyway. After all, if he remains a pundit & host for Fox he makes more money AND he can be more honest about his sometimes pragmatic stance on topics. A quality which is sadly a bit of a death knell for any serious GOP candidate.
