So, redifining rape creates jobs HOW exactly?

A snippet from this Mother Jones posting about a GOP bill just introduced:

For years, federal laws restricting the use of government funds to pay for abortions have included exemptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. (Another exemption covers pregnancies that could endanger the life of the woman.) But the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” a bill with 173 mostly Republican co-sponsors that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has dubbed a top priority in the new Congress, contains a provision that would rewrite the rules to limit drastically the definition of rape and incest in these cases.

Ladies & gentlemen, this YOUR 2011 GOP that YOU voted into the majority in November. Now, I am no hard core burn-your-bra feminist. However, this proposal is so ridiculously insulting that it has raised my feminist hackles quite high. Please, someone – name me a medical procedure that MEN undertake which is subject to so much debate and potential government regulation? Republicans SCREAM about the government takeover of health care. They cry socialism at every possible turn. (Let’s just forget that they clearly have no clue what socialism even means).

Well, hello GOP leaders – but IN MY MIND, this proposal is a complete overreach of government into MY personal life as a woman. As if rape itself is not horrifying enough, I now would have to PROVE that it was FORCIBLE (what the hell does that even mean? Isn’t ALL rape forcible??) in order to have financial assistance in a MEDICAL PROCEDURE that I am FREE TO HAVE DONE (for now anyway) should a pregnancy result from that RAPE? A dirt bag predator attacks ME, and as if just proving rape isn’t humiliating enough for a victim (still, yes in 2011 we treat women as victims with an appalling lack of sensitivity) now we need to go further? I’m sorry folks, but what level of male dominated bullshit is this?

Also, how exactly does this proposal create JOBS? Because, you know, it was pounded into my brain that the 2010 mid terms were all about JOBS JOBS JOBS.

Perhaps the GOP leadership really DOESN”T know what the American People want?

Yeah, shocking that. I sure hope the people who voted for them are paying attention to the actions they are taking after all of that fantastic lip service they paid.

And if you are a woman? How in the HELL do you justify supporting a political party that believes they should be able to control not only WHAT medical procedures you can have, or what prescription drugs you are allowed to take (heaven forbid you should try to PREVENT pregnancy eh?), but now they are also pushing yet again for making sure that you pay for it out of your own pocket no matter how poor you are. Insurance better not cover it and if a pharmacist doesn’t want to fill your prescriptions, he can refuse. Even if that means you have to drive hours out of your way to find someone who will. IOW – women – you know how outraged we all got when it was proven that dry cleaners charge us MORE for our clothes? Well, perhaps you should be more concerned about how many more hoops we have to jump through in order to receive the medical care and medication that we need. Think about how much more expensive it is. Think about how much MORE expensive the GOP is trying to make it for you.

So women – I am looking at you. Pay attention to what this Congress is proposing. Be thankful that the Senate & President most likely can stop if from happening. Fathers with daughters – same to you. Imagine your beautiful little princess in one of these situations. What would you want for her?
